Is the hermit's house still standing in Lahaway ?

Is Rattlesnake Ace's house still standing in Upton ?

I have never been to the above places and i was wondering if there is anything left to see.

I was also wondering about the location of Asa Pittmans house.Back in the 70s I would pick blueberries and ride dirtbikes at my neighbors grandparents farm.It was located a mile off of Rt.70 on the road listed on Google maps as North Whitesbog Rd.(They just called it The Lane).About halfway down The Lane the road curved around an old house that looked just like the picture of Asa's house. The family that lived in the house were named Pittman and the two oldest sons would pick berries with us.When they didn't pick berries they would make extra money by catching and selling snakes.Possibly through an old family connection?

Would it be closer to Mt.Misery?Possibly on Rattlesnake Rd. or on the other side of Rt. 70 near where Upton Bridge was.I have driven down those R/R tracks many times without realizing all the history of the area. Now I have a source of great info and I hope to find some of these areas.

Asa Pittmans house is not standing anymore however, as you indicated, his family does still live there in more recently constructed homes. There are a couple piney shacks back there and one newer house. One of the piney houses is further back along the tracks, this might have been the Asa Pittman homestead, but I am just guessing. If you go in there, keep in mind it is mostly private property.

Thanks for the info on the Upton area Jeff, due to the private property concerns that area will be taken off my list as a possible future exploration.

It is okay to go in there, it is just that the houses themselves are on private property. I would suggest you give it a drive through as a side trip. The rail used to run under route 70 there and it is interesting to see where the old underpass has been filled in. They recently built a new house on the oppisite side of 70 but I believe the tracks in that area are still public. Good luck.

Would these houses be on the Country Lakes side of the R/R or the side that runs through the state forest? It ran right behind my buddies grandparents farm and their uncle took a backhoe and dug it up. Making it too rough for cars and trucks but we rode our dirtbikes on it acting like pro M/X riders.
