Lakewood Horse track.

Recently, I was exploring in Lakewood and uncovered the remains of a horse farm which appears to have had it's heyday in the 30s. Complete with a tiny cemetery on the former property. Would you guys have any additional information on this locale? I realize this isn't the Pine Barrens now, but it was back then.

Lakewood was known for its chicken/egg farms, I don't think it would be too unusual to have a horse ranch in the area, there are still a few active in Toms River and more in Jackson.

Normally I don't like to be too specific with locations, but there really isn't much around this site, so.

From what I could find out; that parcel is just over 105 acres, owned by 2 people in Long Branch, so it is private property. Taxes are a whopping $30 grand and it is in Howell Twnshp Monmouth Cnty, not Lakewood. If you look around, there are several horse tracks in the area.

30 grand! That's CRAZY. It's obvious that no one has been to the property in a long time. It's almost a nature preserve.

Looking at Historic Aerials it seems like it stopped being used between 1979-1986.
