Had my dog out today - looking for something to photograph and this is what I came up with.
this is a beautiful shot! Where did you find such a flat cleared area in a cedar swamp? Looks like an old roadway.
Lovely! I love British soldier lichen. It provides some hidden color in the pines during the drab winter.
Here are a few of my lichen & fungus photos from the past month.

The Philadelphia Botanical Club will be having a field trip to observe Lichens on March 17th. Go to www.ansp.org/hosted/botany_club/ and look in the field trip section.

Thank You! Believe it or not that was just a lucky shot taken at Wells Mills Park, Waretown.
That would be Tin Soldier Lichen,it supposedly resembles the red helmets of a British soldier.
Aside from the occasional nice picture, easily memorizing Latin names is my only talent. Can't sing lyrics to songs I heard a thousand times, can't name movies or actors, can't tie cherry stems... But gimme a Latin name and its stuck in the gray forever.Never caught on to Latin.Probably because I was never fond of Rome.
