Garter snakes are the only snake i am aware of around here with a yellow stripe down each side.The belly should be fairly yellow also.

She forgot this well-publicized incident from last June...
I was eye to eye with a Black Racer today. I was along the side of a road in a wet area and the snake lifted its head above the grass when it became alert to my presence. I stayed motionless and after about two minutes it moved on. I would say it was around four feet in length.
Just visible in the middle of the picture is the Racer with half of its body raised.

yes it could have been.A ribbon snake looks much like a garter snake i my opinion only generally darker and thinner built,yes it could have been.Al, could it have also been a ribbon snake that close to the water?
