I read that the trail was recently made. So if it is shown on terraserver, which is a mid 90's photo, they must have used a prior road as the trail.....correct?

Its probably not what you think Boyd, but I'll tell you.

This trail, and I only say Forked Mountain Trail because we sponsored its construction, is an interpretive trail that winds around a loop of the middle branch of the forked river. It has signs constructed by a helpful crew of eagle scouts that point out the various vegetation and topography along the way. It is meant to be a pine barrens primer for people who visit Wells Mills. The trail is actually an old sand road. You have to drive a few miles through the woods just to get to the trail head. The trail is maybe 2 miles long. Here 'tis:
