My wife and I and the dog hit Mannis Duck Pond, north of Quaker Bridge, today for a beautiful winter hike.
We parked a little northeast of Lower Forge and walked the rest of the way in.
The pond was awesome with its winter ice coat and you can't beat a winter sky for photos.
The dam makes a small waterfall and today it had a little ice fringe.
Another great day to be alive and in the big woods.

Very nice. I was there about 6 years ago in February with the original PBX group. We hiked through the snow in 22 degree weather. The snow was about 8" deep. Rough going, started at Penn Swamp. Don't think I'll do that kind of hike again.

Nice photo's!

Was the plate still there from the "LF Deer Club"? We have discussed before what the "LF" stands for and we came to the conclusion it may be "Lower Forge Deer Club". It was thought that the dot next to the target symbol at the below link may have been a gun club. Does anyone have any other ideas?

It is a beautiful spot in the heart of Wharton.
That area out there to me has always been what I think of when I think of the "Pine Barrens".
I started going back there when I was 10, circa 1968, with my father and his friend when I started hunting. My father's friend had a 1959 Pontiac and later a 1966 Pontiac that served as our woods truck. We would drive in from either Batsto or Atsion and park in the Quaker Bridge or Lower Forge area.
That stream leading out of the pond yesterday looked like a trout stream for the first 50 yards or so as it cascaded through that cut.
You need to hike in right now as there are some truck swallowing holes on the way in. They are now frozen but not enough to support a vehicle as of yesterday. Maybe after a few more days of this weather they will be.

Thats a really great spot! When we first "discovered it" in the late 70's we were hiking from Carranza to Lower Forge. We found an inviting foot path and stumbled onto the pond. At that time there had been a fire north of the pond and it was very open. Great for birding. We since mannaged to get the horses over that spillway.

Very cool spot. Last time I was there right at the foot bridge must have been 8 years ago. Thanks for bringing this up Scott. I couldn't remember where I had seen that plaque and it was bugging me for years. Now I remember.
