I thought I'd let everyone know it is still there. The roads to it from the east and south are good, the west from Hay Road is closed to vehicles now.







There was no trash at all!, well except for two ballons.

That LF must be Lower Forge as we discussed before I believe. You would think we would have heard something about that club.

I also want to find out about the club across from Jeff's old house on 70.

Nice pics Ed. So they closed off Hay road to vehicles huh? Great (sarcasm) we know who we have to thank for that (the 1/4 mile crew). Lets give them a big thanks. (sarcasm again) Interestingly, the 1/4 milers are probably going to still use it. Just not the rest of us. I doubt it will ever open again.

Where is Hay Road closed at? How is it blocked? Or are you saying the road from Mannis to Hay is closed?

I have driven that with Bob and even walked it and nothing was closed. I am a little confused on what "closed" really means.

I too am confused. It seems for some time if you approached from one direction that area is open, from the other direction there is one sign that says no vehicles. How is that area any different from th rest of the forest?

That Lower Forge area has been closed since the 70s when I first visited and may have been closed in the 60s. What is shown as Hay Road on Google Earth was open as late as last year. I just can't see how they could close off that road because it is remote enough that anyone could get by it.

At this intersection the road south to LF is, and has been for years, closed to vehicle traffic, as marked by a painted wooden sign stating " NO MOTOR VEHICLES ...". I saw no sign on the road heading off to the SE toward the Mannis Pond Road.

At this Y intersection there are the same signs posted on both roads when traveling west.
I used to drive this loop all the time, but driving it in reverse I saw a " NO Motor Vehicle" sign at the location below.
The road heading SW into LF, High Crossing LF Road, always had the sign, but now there is a newly painted sign on the road to the intersection in the previous link.

So it appears you can only drive it in one direction.

There is a stream here. Immediately to the north of it there is a large tree blocking the road but there is a new go around. I did not yet drive through the stream. There is an old stump on the approach to it so I want to walk it first to check the bottom.

Love that place. This is the first year in of the last seven or so that I did not make my fall camping trip to the pines. I always spend a night near the pond. I took the kids there two years ago or so for a camp out and the pond was dry, we found a string of bear tracks in the mud....posted some pics here somewhere. The sunrise was amazing.
In fact my avatar is a shot of the pond at sunset. Thanks for the pics, got me thinking it's time for a winter camp out.

Here's how it looked on 12-22-2010 looking south.
There is a go around on the right, but the drop off is steep for cars.


Note the stump in the foreground.

This is a puzzling statement. How would people who don't want to chance a deep hole get into the woods? For the most part, we wouldn't have go-arounds if off-road types didn't tear holes in the roads. I'm not saying there are no natural obstacles, but many or most of the holes are created and enlarged by trucks.
