This week exploring some new places, I came upon some Hooded Mergansers. I made a short VIDEO. They manage to stay just to the limit of my lens but I got a few decent shots. Also, mallards and a marsh hawk I found seeking shelter on a windy day. You can find the large sizes HERE. Enjoy.

The side picture of the hen mallard is excellent. It shows great detail. I just picked up a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS for my Canon Rebel XSI. I like it but the pictures are a little soft at the 300mm range.

Nice! Are you impressed with your new location? Did you just happen upon it or did someone mention it?

I crawled on my belly in icy mud and snow to get this close... I just wish there was more sunlight. Enjoy.

I never saw a black Vulture in New Jersey before today... maybe I never looked hard enough.

They are great shots as Sue mentioned. Looks like you were left on your belly alone there :)

The mergansers taking off is an exciting shot. Love all your mergansers--the colors are so precise, they hardly look real. And I can't help feeling sorry for that chilly ol' vulture. Thanks for the icy-mud crawl to get these for us.

I don't know much from the duckies. They sure look good and you do work hard for a shot sir! I will say though, this is a right smart picture of one fine looking vulture. He looked like he was posing just for you, or eyeballing you to see if you'd expire in a fair amount of time and ripen up.
Thanks for sharing, your pics and for sure your effort.

A Largo classic!

Vultures be checkin' the unstable pair of Alfie and me out all the time. They nip at our heels each time we barely make it back to our vehicles. One of these days we'll make a fine meal (Alfie, especially.)

Pancoast ... I look at every photo you post, repeatedly, and love them all.

greetings! nice pics of the mergansers, ducks and buzzard. we came across a bunch of mergansers on a pond in heislerville. they were nice surprise, just wished i had my other lens with me. i just couldn't get close enough to get a clear shot.

a couple of weeks ago i stopped to take a couple of sunrise pics on my way to work and a red shouldered hawk sat and allowed my to take it's photo, a very pleasant surprise.. i need to get a slightly more powerful lens though

Just posting these here rather than start a new thread. I went to Barnegat Light this morning. I felt like such a small guy with all the long lenses there. I still feel I got off some good shots. Large sizes HERE. Enjoy.

Beautiful shots . . . Impressive, the way you've caught them against the dark water. Gotta love that bad-hair-day merganser with his gorgeous eyes and bill.
Thanks!
