Here's a few more snippets from 2012. Some in the pines. Some not. Its been a slow year for me as far as wildlife photography goes . . . but not a bad one. Enjoy!

it looks sore, but its actually just pigmented i think (it matches the same color in specs on other scales). unless he went overboard while shedding he had no reason to rub on anything.

Well done Bobbleton! You definitely have the talent to capture a great photograph.

The images of the Pine snake and turtle hatchling are terrific.

Glo the only salamanders I have seen in the Pines are both phases of the redbacked salamander, one is a red back and the other a lead (gray) back and I saw a northern red salamander in a cedar swamp once.I hear tell marbleds are common but have never seen them and I have seen Tiger larvae in several gravel pit ponds. The mountains are better for salamanders.,at least they are more easily found there.

thanks everyone! Its great being able to share all the great stuff I see with an appreciative audience. I mentioned up top that some of this was not in the pines - that applies to all the salamanders.

Thank you, manumuskin, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Have been pondering a northern red (Pseudotriton ruber ruber) in a cedar swamp for my next Friendship Bog book, and you've confirmed my choice. :)

Very Nice! I like the Timber, in Jersey? I would assume in the Highland's? Look at the fangs on it!

When I turkey hunt in Vermont in every May, the woods are absolutely loaded with the juvenile Red eft's. You have to becareful not to step on them! They call them Newt's up there.
