I'm not fond of that kind of music. "Keep me drinking moonshine and sniffing that cocaine, digging that coal, keep your nose to the grindstone and out of the pills, get out of these hills". To me it's that whole aura of country bars, drinking, women, lost love, no jobs, etc, etc, etc. Depressing. Just being honest here.

Tyler Childers is one of my favorite performers, In my opinion he doesn't have a bad tune!
Agreed Joe. My son Jeff has seen him twice in concert and he said he was awesome. Hopefully he never steps over into mainstream country.
The sh*t on the radio today is unbearable. Thank God for the Sirius Outlaw Country channel.

And I don't like happy music written and sung by dopey potheads. :D

The Grateful Dead went on an acoustic kick during 1969-1970, it's actually my favorite period for the Dead but it's relatively unknown. Here's a long article with lots of links to the concerts:

This is the intro to a concert at SMU on 12/26/1969 (first part is hard to hear) where Jerry explains that the drummer is "...on a plane, somewhere over Omaha" and they're going to do an acoustic set while they wait for him. I've read that this was just a BS excuse for an acoustic set, because they figured the audience would never accept it otherwise. (you have to click the play button in these archive.org links)

A couple numbers from that concert

"Long Black Limosine"

It was the day after Christmas, 1969, Bobby says they're going to do a "sacred song", in keeping with the season. But - leave it to the Dead - to choose a "sacred song" about death. :D

"The Master's Bouquet"

Ben, when is the site going to crack down on these secessionists? :D
And their relatives who would reply to their secessionizing pretending to be the voice of reason?? :D:D

Recent conversations about music and the messages that it sends had me recalling an old bit from Steve Martin:

Count me among the older guys, Bob. It was very nice to hear that again. Can't disagree with you about the cover either.

Speaking of disagreeing, in the last few days there has been back and forth between Deadheads and country fans, not to mention the Blue and the Gray. I'm hoping for the musical membership to turn in unison against a common adversary...one that has done Very Bad Things. I was going to wait until action here slowed, but I'm sorry, my trigger finger is too itchy to avoid taking the first shot: Roadblock by Janis Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Company.

I can imagine them (Big Brother and Janis) in Frisco in some underground bar, making the local hipsters move and shout.

Here's a second musical commentary regarding those doing Very Bad Things (©2024 RednekF350) to our Pine Barrens access. This is David Byrne singing his version of the old classic, Don't Fence Me In.

If anyone else wants to take a musical dig at those responsible, please go ahead.
