Roadblock by Janis Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Cool... but that song wasn't part of the Cheap Thrills album shown in the preview. Monterey Pop is a must-see if you like Janis, another film by D A Pennebaker, who made several truly excellent music documentaries during the 60's.

Did you know that Janis Joplin and "Pig Pen" from the Grateful Dead were a thing for awhile? There are some great recordings of her coming up on stage and joining in during Dead concerts. Found these with a quick search, there are probably more.

Clearly not. But this Pig Pen was a man after your own heart - not interested in drugs but consumed large quantities of whiskey. Rather tragic, it killed him before he reached the age of 30. Putting all the the craziness aside, he was incredibly talented, played multiple instruments and his vocals/extended raps literally stole the show during his time with the Dead.

He would often do a solo of the Lightnin' Hopkins classic "Katie Mae", playing acoustic guitar in authentic country blues style.

Lightnin' Hopkins is also a big favorite of mine (I have a cat named Katie Mae :D ). If you have the chance, check out "The Blues Accordin' to Lightnin' Hopkins", a terrific short film by Les Blank.

Aside from the music and insight into his life, it's fascinating on a whole different level. These white college kids thought it would be cool to make a film and hang out with him for a few days but he was clearly goofing on them much of the time, holding them up for more money to continue (which they ended up wiring their parents for, IIRC). I've probably watched that film a hundred times and never tire of it!
