My Favorite Finds of the Pines

This is a collaboration of my favorite finds. Most are from this year, as my photography skills have been improving. But I threw in a few half-decent images from last year. These are just pics to enjoy, if you in fact, enjoy these animals. I'm gonna keep the details to a minimum, but feel free to ask any questions. I won't divulge locale, but you get the drift. Thanks!

Cool! The five-lined skink is the little lizard with the bright blue tail that I was asking about in another thread but didn't get any responses. There are a LOT of these around my woods, but especially on my front porch. They live in my firewood that is stacked there and in the afternoon I see them in all sizes enjoying the sun.

Yeah, I see them a lot on logs and dumped trash (unfortunately). Definitely my favorite lizard of Jersey's three.

Thank you sir. I love the barrens. If I wasn't so drawn to herps of the entire area (PA mountains included), I'd be much more knowledgeable about all of the pines flora and fauna. I have a book or two to read this winter.

some of those herps are quite rare finds.The coastal is ashame.that is the only way i have ever found one,DOR down in virginia,never found one in jersey.The corn and the tiger salamander are also rarities.Your very good with that camera and obviously know jersey herps pretty well.

Thanks, Al. That coastal is the only one I've ever found too. And as you can see by my finds, I spend a lot of time looking. I don't know if I know a lot about NJ herps... its more like I spend a lot of time looking. I've had a lot of help along the way, research a lot, and strike out a lot. It's all worth it though when you finally see what you've been looking for.

What a feast! You must have spent hours and hours "looking" and then plenty of time putting it all together. I really like your snakes and the way you've ID'd your subjects. I'm curious about how you achieved your fine collection of frogs; they never sit still for me. What's your secret?

My favorite, though, is the scene with children and black racer. The perfect photo-op, and you caught it!

Glowordz... Thanks for the compliments. I spend a TON of time looking, and striking out unfortunately. It's an addiction. As far as the frogs, patience and stealth. It's a learned art. haha.

P.S. It's 10/20 and I think I'm gonna have to come to terms with the fact that another year goes by no (living) coastal milk, scarlet snake, ribbon snake, or rough green. Those are my last snakes to find and photo.
