either a regular pack cover,(granite gear has some good ones) if not them just check the weight before you buy, should not be more than 3-4 ounces.
other option is a light weight dry sack as a pack liner, good thing about this option is it will come in handy for any boating trips or serious river crossings.More versatile. Sea to summit has great stuff, they use sil-nylon which looks flimsy at first but is amazingly tough for it's weight.www.seatosummit.com. I guess I am kind of stuck on wet weather gear but nothing will put a bad taste in your mouth on a first time trip like being wet to the bone and not being able to get dry.
i read that you bought the hiker for a filter. Excellent choice I have used one in the pines quite a bit. it works fine. I have a quick connect kit for my camelbak hydration system which lets me plug the filter right in, saves alot of time.Try to stick with flowing water sources, stagnant cedar water has alot of silt in it.I tried to fill up at Mannis duck pond once and clogged up a new filter in about twenty strokes.that is not the norm however as I have never had a problem before.

I am the IT Manager of a software development company in Manhattan. I also run this site, so I deal with a lot of the web technologies you work with.
