Honey locust pods do not explode. The pod you found is black locust. Honey locus pods do have a sweet inner pulp once they ripen hense the name...

Learn something new every day!! Thanks!
I'd always heard they both exploded, but it seems you are correct: the term for a legume that does NOT explode being indehiscent:
a. Legume: An elongate "bean pod" splitting along two seams; typical fruit of the third largest plant family, the legume family (Leguminosae or Fabaceae). The pod represents one folded modified leaf or carpel that is fused along the edges. E.g. black locust, redbud, acacia, coral tree, orchid tree, wisteria and many more genera. Note: Some legume fruits are indehiscent, including the carob tree, mesquite and honey locust.

Is the inner pulp human edible, do you by chance know?

Steve, pics of twigs of each, I have from a botany set. The black locust is off kilter a bit because my cat and I could not seem to agree whether or not I should be photographing or petting her...
