Ok...So I'm thinking of moving to the Pine Barrens. I'm not finding too much info on the area that is helping me. Like...I wanna know where the spookiest places are. I'm looking for an old farmhouse type house. I want to know more about the area. Anyone wanna help me out on this? Im sure you are concerned about the type o' peeps that would upset the Pines...BUT, I have to say, just because we are into different adventures in life, does not mean we are destroyers of life. Actually, I love nature. Im looking for a place far away from the city and its garbage and pollution. I want a home to settle down in and read my books by fire on the colder evenings and have coffee in the morning with the trees in the backyard.
Perhaps my wording is off. I mean to say eery....almost too quiet...isolated. I want to open a Bed and Breakfast. I want a retreat but perhaps with the Piney lore? Nope...not bringing the home wreckers and the druggies and the destroyers your way. I would want no part of that I assure you. I hope I've plead my case well.

Isloated? Hard to find today, even in the Pine Barrens.
I have found that some of the most "desolate" and "spooky" areas are out near Colliers Mills, Cassville, and Archer's Corners. I have driven through there at 3AM and it's pretty spooky.
So you might want to look at Plumstead Township.

I'm coming to visit the area tomorrow....Possibly swim in the Mullica River and take a peek around. I'm so looking forward to the escape. I'm interested in the forgotten towns and their histories although I dont really know too much about them. My family would much rather have visited NYC than a relaxing get-a-way when I was growing up.

Don't read too much into at Jokerman's comments.
The WeirdNJ crowd tends to be younger, only interested in places where there are stories of Satan Worshipers, ghosts, UFO's, etc. The crowd here tends to be older (although I am only 25) and more interested in the real history and nature of the area.
Neither type of person is right or wrong. I'm not a huge fan of WeirdNJ but I do buy them when they come out. I don't treat them as anything more as campfire stories that are largely made up. But then again there are some well respected historians that have just as many mistakes in the books they wrote about the area.

You'll be hard pressed to find much more than a very, very occasional latrine...Re: pee, as long as you stay 200'+ from a water source and carry out your trash you're ok...(Carry baby wipes or waterless hand sanitizer for your hands.)....If you're wondering about any other stuff like that, you can send me a PM (no that's not premenstral!) (Private message) and I'll try to answer. Sounds like a gross thing to talk about, but it's a legitimate concern.
When we go on group hikes, you just politely excuse yourself as needing the "ladie's room" and find a big tree to hide behind. And if one of the guys lags far behind, he's probably peeing, so leave him be....

Well, Thanks for the welcome. I don't pay so much attention to people because I believe everyone has an opinion. I just dont like to be categorized as "one of those" because I feel I have so much to offer in life. But it's ok, he didn't bother me. I'm 29 myself. I can honestly say I have NEVER read Weird NJ. Suppose I should if I plan on living there.
Hmm...I don't believe much of the ghost stories and such. I believe in the strange powers ones imagination could have in a isolated or darker area. I kinda like that. Im an artist and I make creepy dolls and I like my imagination to thrive! heh heh That would be why I asked for darker isolated areas. I met a ghosthunter once....neat nifty unique not for me!

I don't like most of North Jersey, except for North West, out by Asbury and the Delaware Water Gap.
To me anything north of the Raritan is "North Jersey."

My feelings exactly. Over my last four years at The College of New Jersey, mostly everyone I have met is from North Jersey (and not the Pocono-like area). They refer to NYC as "the city" and constanly rag on my friends and I growing up with Philadelphia as our city.
Strange enough, this prompted me to make a bunch of t-shirts displaying my love for South Jersey. I don't have anymore left right now, but I will be ordering another batch shortly. I'm sure some people on this board would appreciate the shirts. Here is a link to what one looks like, I took it with my webcam so it's not the greatest quality.

I visited Leed's Point and Batsto and went swimming around Batsto. It was nice. Too populated though. The houses are so close together. I am so looking for that "old farmhouse" covered in trees and away from others. Ever see anything like that. I know I dint go into the right areas.
I was dissappointed to see places like the Four Seasons tearinf apart the trees and plopping up those houses. Sweatwater was nice.

Green Bank is nice. Other than that, you'll find Farmlands out in South West Jersey.
Or if you want desolation, go towards Port Norris, Shellpile, and Bivalve. I would consider moving down there if the commute wouldn't kill me.
