Inspired by the PBX great swamp branch thread and disscussion of the India sink bog. I thought I would share a quick trip report I took last fall.
I live near the upper reaches of the batsto river. I discovered, via topos and aerial photos, a very old bog. It is much older than most bogs in the area. Any roads leading to the bog have long since been overgrown so reaching the bog was entirely bushwacking.
this bog is ancient and almost reclaimed by nature. It lies with a few dozen yards of the Batsto. The Batsto at this point is narrow and slow running.
a small canal leads from the river to the bog.
It is boarded by a low land pine forest on the east and cedar swamp to the West. Here is a photo of the approach from the east
Finally, the bog this is looking West.

The size of the trees on this berm hint at the age of the bog and how long it has been since anybody paid it any mind.
