Well it's hard to tell from the photo. :v:
I was just following the OP! You're probably right. Sorry to freak anyone out.

My great aunts and uncles were telling me that when they worked at Whitesbog after they got here from Italy, many of them didnt have proper shoes and even took turns sharing them when they went out in the fields. Rags were more common for those very poor. They'd wrap linen around them usually.

Apparently, the Library of Congress has some sort of time limit on access to certain links, because I checked them after posting and they worked. In any event, see if this works. Click on the link under her photo. BTW, the photo is no bigger.

If this does not work, I have downloaded a web archive of it and posted it. You can download it and click on it to get there.

Guy, both links failed. Thanks for trying. I'd still love to see them.

The Library of Congress generates a seemingly endless URL.

I got to the original cranberry girl's picture by going to http://memory.loc.gov/ and then searching for "cranberry"

The photo comes up under a category labelled "America from the Great Depression to World War II: Photographs from the FSA-OWI, 1935-1945"

Caption says "Girl picker at cranberry bog. Three-fourths of the cranberry pickers are children. Burlington County, New Jersey."

Rothstein, Arthur, 1915- photographer.

1938 Oct."

Thanks Dave, got it. Did you notice Double Trouble and the write up about it? Nice. I saved the link to the Library. Looks like a great place to browse.

Thanks Ben. The little one does have rags on her feet. If she was, say 12 when the photo was taken in circa 1932?, then she would be 87 today. Its a possibility she is in some row house in Philadelphia. Be neat to find her.
