Took a hike through Parkdale today with the wife and dog and it was a beautiful day in the woods. No wind and a cobalt sky.
Checked on a few geocaches we set a year ago and took a few pictures of Sleeper Branch and Clark's Branch.
Good day to be suckin' air.
I am going to try to attach the photos.
If I can't figure it out, check my gallery.

I checked a few of the photo's in your gallery that only have one view, so I assume they are the photo's in question. I like being in those area's in the woods. They are just like savanahs but with more water.

BEHR655 I don't get into that area enough. Steve[/QUOTE said:
It is a 10 minute ride for me and has some of the most beautiful vistas in the pines.
I am always fascinated with the elaborate bog and weir networks, the abandoned blueberry fields hidden within the woods and the amount of work it must have taken to keep that operation viable.
It was viable enough at one time to warrant a stop on the Jersey Central.
I saw a picture in the Cam. Co. Historical Society in an historical train book (sorry, not a train buff so I don't remember the name of the book) of two guys sitting on a bench waiting for a train under a "Parkdale" station sign.
Neat stuff.

Here is some interesting info I have come up with. Much of the property at Parkdale was purchased from the Joseph Wharton estate, and there is quite a bit that was purchased from Earl Haines. Most of the wet area from 206 to the JCRR was owned by Haines. Here is a rundown of the acres.

There was in the 1950's 1845.5671 acres owned by the state with 7 exceptions at 386.8036 acres. Exceptions are pieces of property owned by others. There were 19.9660 acres of road right of ways, and 11.0882 acres of RR right of ways. This totals 1427.7093 acres owned by the state.

Some of the exceptions in Parkdale proper were purchased by the state as late as May of 1982, and closer to Chew road there are at least two lots purchased in February of 1997.

BTW, at Batsto a few weeks back we learned that some of the property was purchased by the state in the initial purchase of Wharton for the exorbitant price of $3 and acre!

An old friend at my church, who I have mentioned before, remembers Parkdale when it was active.
He has family buried in the Atsion Church cemetery and the Chew Cemetery on Chew road.
His grandfather's house was across from Dutchtown on the edge of the Parkdale bogs.
Remnants of the foundation are still there.

Sounds like a good stroll, always cool to wander around out that way.
A nice stretch by the "pike"
My kids love the railroad bridges.
