Anywhere there is an RC plane club there are drones and have been for many decades, some look very foreboding
They are also in and on the waters and ground. They're everywhere

a very misleading article. Comments about much of the pinebarrens being untouched by humans, or that humans had never been there. The largest tract of land east of the mississippi. While I wish this was true, it simply isn't.

I thought the same thing. I've been in places I swore were the most pristine in NJ, only to find empty Poland Spring bottles or beer cans.
Atlantic City International Airport is involved in New Jersey's bid to become one of six drone testing sites across the country in an effort that could produce millions in economic impact for the state.
New Jersey has partnered with Virginia in the highly competitive process initiated by a federal call for proposals by the Federal Aviation Administration earlier this year. Fifty organizations from 37 states indicated intent to apply, according to the FAA.
"It's a highly competitive process, so there's not much I'm able to say. This could very well be a big deal," South Jersey Transportation Authority acting Executive Director Sam Donelson said. "It could lead to significant economic development for New Jersey - specifically New Jersey and specifically the airport."

The Pine Barrens "somehow" escaped development. Hrm, maybe that has something to do with it being (generally) closed off to development?
I'd feel better about the article and the artist if they just came out and said "yes, I want to look at Google Maps and then do some low-cost aerial photography" rather than "this is the only way to get these pictures because wilderness" even though there's a road that runs right by that "development" that you could get a car down.
In the end it's an interesting idea with way too much sensationalizing and not enough research.
