Pinelands Jet Port and other dreams

Thanks Guy and Terry! Some really fascinating stuff that will take awhile to digest. Can you imagine if they had completed this project? What a nightmare!

I was unable to sleep a few evenings ago and caught the documentary on the jet port that was to built were the Great Swamp is located in Morris county. Was that proposal an alternative plan to the Pinelands jet port or just a reaction to the blossoming jet age?

As I recall, the swamp jetport was to replace Newark airport. The end result was the creation of Great Swamp NWR. Very similar to the Tocks Island dam project on the Delaware with the end result being the creation of the DWGNRA. And as you know, the feds were involved with the Pinelands National Reserve. Is there a pattern here? ;)

The "floating nuclear power plant" on page 101 was another great idea. :D

And now the Russians have actually built one!

"On Saturday a new floating nuclear power plant left St. Petersburg, Russia, towed by two boats. The two-reactor, 70MW floating power plant is headed through the Baltic Sea and north around Norway, to a Russian town called Murmansk, where the boat will receive its fuel. After a period of time in Murmansk, the power plant will be towed to a small Arctic town called Pevek..."

They did it decades ago, 1959, with the launch of the Lenin, nuclear powered icebreaker. Probably have more nuke powered stuff than anyone on the planet. Since then there have been quite a few ships and subs powered by the atom floating around.
