Since it seems like it's pretty popular for people to talk about, is there interest in a general purpose politics forum here? I'd like to keep the site as Pine Barrens focused as I can, so rounding up all of the political threads into one place would be a good way of keeping the rest of the site focused.

Or, should I just change Politics of the Pines to include non-PB stuff and lump it all in there?

Well, I figured that if they're off in a land of their own then folks who don't care to see them then don't have to. The slag heap is reserved for especially atrocious threads.

Okay, "Politics of the Pines" has been renamed and moved under the off-topic section. No more political threads anywhere else. And, if things get heated and out of control, threads are gonna get slagged.
