All,

Yesterday afternoon Bob, Chris, Jessica, and I maneuvered some old cedar logs on the edges of the Cedar Creek preparing for a PBX hike in the fall. The creek is quite wide in this area and for the most part it is low; however, on both edges it is too deep to cross without the water going over our knee highs. Getting wet is not really a problem on a PBX hike, but having to walk long distances with wet pants can really cause some chafing in the thighs. We wanted to keep that to a minimum so we worked today to lessen the chance of this happening.

The Cedar Creek.

The creek for the most part is quite sandy, but there are pockets of sediment that cause you to sink quite deep. This shows Bob in one trying to get out.

This cutout appears to me to have been man made. The next photo makes me believe at one time this was used possibly as a bridge. Bob is doubtful.

All,

Those notches may be from the log being part of a log dwelling or themain beams of a bridge.

The pic shows the machine made notches on some of the logs from the log package for our cabin.

Ed .... I believe it is the cleanest stream around. It is very nice.

Tom .... we talked about that while doing it :) We made the bridge on one side of the creek with a railing so if it hangs in there you won't need one. That was Bob's idea.

Seriously. Cook's Branch and Sweetwater Run are so cold it takes 15 minutes to get used to it. Feels like 40 degrees. But Cedar Creek proper (downstream several miles) is just right for swimming. Not too cold, not too warm.

That sounds great! I went down to the Rappahanock last week and the water temp. was about the same as the air temp. What I wouldn't give for an icy cedar creek! I might have to make a trip up that way. Been way to long.

I hope canoers don't destroy the bridge. It looks like it may be an impediment to the canoeists who regularly start at Bamber and head to double trouble or lanoka harbor.if they can float around it they will but if it is a liftover and appears easily demolished they will do that also.

I know,I be one but since thats a pbx bridge it is sacred to me:)

They came by while we were there. No problem since it is really wide there. We actually have one on each side. I would be more worried about a major rain.
