Question on "Clearings" in the Pines

Since I began charting my list of sites I'd like to see now that I'm starting to explore the pines a bit, I've spent a lot of time going through both the topo as well as aerial maps to nose around and seek out things that look interesting.

The other day after my trip to Black's Bridge, I decided to look at some maps for future trips to the same area, since I want to try and find some ruins of Eureka and the way to the FRM preserve area (not the mountain itself).

The big clearing out there puzzled me. I've seen several of these on the aerial maps in various places and never knew why they were out there and who was keeping them clear of vegetation. Does anyone have any info on that clearing specifically, or just some general input on what the deal is with these areas.

On a separate note, noticed this building on Jones Road in Barnegat. Does anyone know what the story is?

find some ruins of Eureka

The Eureka ruins are in the clearing you pass through just before Black's Bridge.

The big clearing out there puzzled me.

The fields were created by the state to improve wildlife habitat. Nice areas for deer and turkey to feed. The fields are part of Greenwood WMA.

noticed this building on Jones Road

The building is a hunting club, not sure what the club name is.

You'll notice that some of those clearings are cut in the shape of a letter of the alphabet or figure. Done on purpose to allow aerial checking of those fields and what was planted. The large area with multiple fields off of 539 is the Quail management section of Greenwood where F&W stocks birds.
