I am planning a trip to meet my brother halfway between my house and Athens Louisiana. I will use both Expedia and Priceline to see about a hotel room. I will be returning the next day. It will be 2 days of 11 hour driving, as I am returning the next day.

As soon as I finish my chores and have lunch, I will be wandering around the woods out back. I always enjoy watching the water level rise in the creek and lowlands on a rainy day. Last year was a lot wetter and water levels are perhaps a foot lower this year - the creek was more like a river back then. Rainy days are very peaceful out in the woods.

At work, looking out the office window at the rain. But I did manage to get two screech owl nest boxes into trees berfore the rain picked up.

I got out for a little while to check out two plants. Tipularia discolor (Cranefly orchid) and Lygodium palmatum ( Climbing fern) on a small trail nearby. I found both plants and I also found two ticks when I got home.

All:

I am in the library working feverishly on my upcoming program. Without any windows to observe the weather or time of day, I’m perfectly happy with my rainy, runny Sunday!

For those of you who must go out amongst the precipitation, here is a little traveling music for you:

And remember, one inch of rain is equal to twelve inches of snow, so we can be thankful for the warmer temperatures!

I look forward to seeing many of you next week!

Best regards,
Jerseyman

Thanks for the part about the ticks. Been wondering when they'd start appearing.

I was out in the woods for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon, it was beautiful. No ticks. But this obviously varies by location...

I was lucky this past weekend. I spent most of the day and part of the night in the woods Saturday and I was out Sunday until the rain got real hard.

I picked up three ticks on our hunt Chris.

I didn't check myself that night. I didn't find any stuck in me the next morning in the shower.

That was a unique looking area we hunted, thank you.
