I was in bed in Vermont next to a window, and one of them started growling like a bear from hunger and scared the heck out of me. At the time the word "cute" did not enter my mind.

We've actually had two similar experiences at our house. We were trying to catch a feral cat and had a cage type of trap put out for it by animal control. We caught a very hungry, angry raccoon and growled and tried to jump at us through the cage. It scared Joseph to death.
A few months later there was an almost dead raccoon lying in our stream--this was 2 summers ago, when we had the drought, and our area of the stream looked like a dried mud flat. The animal was barely alive, and being eaten alive by the insects. We had to call animal control who shot the animal to put it out of its misery.

Renee,

We got a raccoon in a trap once too. This past fall but she was sweet and just sat there. I got pictures of her then I taped Mitch letting her go and her waddleing back to my friends house. Her babies and her live in a tree down by the creek. Then growing up we had a dieing baby raccoon on our front lawn. My dad was taking care of it until animal control got there. He gave it some water but it had rabies. We have some really cool pictures of that too. My dad had a pet raccoon as a kid so he was not afraid of them at all.
