From local Facebook:
Just in case you are wondering where the smoke is coming from, there is a brush fire by County Line Bridge on Jackson Road. Forestry is on it.

Well it’s not a great idea when species emerge from hibernation in slow state are sitting at surface and a fire rolls through. Box turtles are sitting usually in a small pile of leaves or needles right now but up from small burrows or forms. They will burn easily as they aren’t at water sources yet nor quick to move. Peepers and other frogs are actively calling and seeking refuge in leaf litter. Corn snakes are just coming up from dens and also in a slow state. Same with pine snakes and other species. Painted turtles are crossing woods to find deeper holes from when pools dried up last year and now seeking those other water sources on land. Same with spotted turtles and mud turtles. If you are going to burn do it before animals are emerging. It’s a very critical time of year for reptiles and they are quite vulnerable to a forest fire relative to winter and summer.
