someone told me that the army buildings behind the fence along rt 539 near manchester are the remains of a radio active type accident back in the 60-s. any links to the story? if its true do you think its safe to even drive near it. the buildings look creepy enough.

Some kid tried taking me to BOMARC a few years back, but we were on some dirt road somewhere in Collier's Mills; had no idea it was right on 539. We never did make it because he apparently forgot how to get there, not to mention he got pulled over twice, ticketed twice, and had his license taken away just on the way there! He told us how he took a sign from the site on one of his earlier trips. Metal holds radiation better than just about anything else, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets sick somewhere down the road.

This was also before they cleaned up all the plutonium, so in a way I'm glad we didn't make it. Now that I'm older and wiser I also figure it's best to not mess around with military sites. That's one place you do NOT want to be caught, especially in these times of paranoia.

You were probably on the road that runs from the entrance of Collier's Mills beside the lake for a while, then goes in between Lakehurst's property and the missle base. I seriously doubt you'd get sick just by driving past it. I've been back there an awful lot and you can't get very close to the actual site. As for stealing stuff from the site that's just stupid, but if you were poking around outside the fence no one would bother you. At least at Lakehurst they're not very uptight about it.

We did drive by a lake and the moron for whatever reason parked in soft sand. In his 80-something Civic with no suspension. Took about a half hour to get it out. Worst trip I've ever gone on.
