Rumors of a cave???

Ok, this is really a long shot but I was just told several hours ago that there was once a CAVE somewhere off Mt. Misery road??? Is this true??? Or just another one of those devil worship stories???

Sometimes some of the stories I hear really get wayyyyyyy out there. But always better to ask then forever wonder.

I thought the same thing, but one never knows. I've been trying to do alittle (internet) research on the Mt Misery area. Trying not to concern myself too much with saw mills, towns and such, but trying to focus on what might have been in the area before all that. And it's not even that I really care, but the fact that there is no information out there thats "gettin' my goat'. Basically just the question of the week, next week I might just want to pull the strings out of the duct tape. I did however read a bit on the indian population in the area and some story about how all the land was amicably 'bought' by non-native americans. Then again I read alot and may have my stories mixed up. I couldn't even tell you if I read that on this site or not. I'll do alittle more research next trip to the library, meantime I might just bake some brownies. As always, I apprecaite your time............Jodi

Jodi, I know this area well. Is there anymore information that was given to you about the cave? Not so much location as, for example, where this person heard of it? Did they say it was a cave in the traditional sense, or a place called "the cave"?

i lived very close to mt misery in the 60's and knew alot of real pineys living at reeves boggs and upton station and was taken around the "woods" by them many times and never a mantion of a cave

I've wondered about the caves I've read of in the pines as well, given the fact that local geology and soils doesn't exactly lend itself to cave formation or digging. I've read several accounts of the pines robbers or "refugees" hiding out in caves during the American Revolution. Also, the Andrews family, who were the first white settlers in Tuckerton, were said to have lived in a cave along Tuckerton Creek until their home was built. Both tales left me scratching my head when I first heard them.

Mt. Misery brook would be a likely candidate for a "bank cave" as it is characterized by high banks. Although, Jodi, I have been up and down most the length of this river and have not seen a cave. Could have been hidden well, and I wasn't really looking. There are other rivers in the area which have similar characterisics.
