All,

Here is a quick attempt to put all of the sawmills I know of in one post. I have more to add in the coming days and will not post the coordinates if I know it is private property, or have concerns it is private property.

Guy

Sawmill # 1

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It can be found just off Route 70 near Reeves Bogs on Arkansas Trail.

Sawmill # 5

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It is most likely the Emmor W. Mick Sawmill located on what I believe to be private property near Route 70. This is the only one I have visited that still has viewable remains of a building.

Sawmill # 12

Guy,
You may of course list this base. It is in Elm on the outskirts of Wharton just beyond Iron Mill but for now is on private property so coords I can give you but not post public. It's in pretty nice shape.

Geographically it is not terribly far from RedNek's Albertson base and may be from the same folk. Call it any number you wish.

Guy, how about the great one you just found on the Oswego PBX hike?
Have to see it.

I don't have a pic of it but there are remains of an old sawmill at Cloverdale Park. I don't know the history of it but Mrs. Collins told me it was in ruins when her husband's family first arrived there.

What an awesome post, Guy. Thanks for taking the time to post all of those. Gives me a few new targets for this season's wandering.

Sweet! Glad you like it. I have more to add.

This map, from Pinelands Folklife (Rutgers Univ Press, 1987) shows several sawmills (and other interesting stuff) in the Tuckahoe area.

I added 11, 12, and 13. GPS coordinates are limited for various reasons.

There is also one on the wading river on Godfrey Estlow's property, I have a map of the old property and located the sawmill location.

PS. I know this thread is old, just thought i'd add it to the list.

That would be a much older sawmill than most of the ones posted here.

It is made from Jersey sandstone, there is a good possibility that it isn't the one on the map I have from 1836. I still have a lot more to do in that area, locating the property stones is on the list.

I haven't been on this site for quite some time, but i happen to know the sawmill and property that wolfspider is reffering to. I also have noticed that it is not mentioned in this thread. It is quite old(being made of sandstone). Godfrey's is not talked about much, besides it just being a camp area. I feel that this areas history has gone neglected. Has anyone else seen or heard of this old sawmill camp's location, or are wolfspider and i the only ones who know about this?

All but maps 1 and 2 appear to be broken.

Ed
they appear to be broken but worked for me.let them download and even if they do not appear in your browser they are still there,at least they are on mine.right click and choose "save as" and go ahead and save them to your computer even though you can't see them.then open them with another program such as Paint or your windows media viewer.
