How was your day?

At 7:30 this morning I decided to drive over to the speedline to clean off the snow on my wife’s car before she arrived there. I took a shovel in the event I needed it. Backing out the driveway I got stuck at the end because I did not get up enough speed to traverse the mound of snow from the plow. Getting stuck in the woods is somewhat acceptable to me, but my driveway! Anyway, after shoveling my way out I proceeded to the station and removed the snow from her car.

The exit there has those spikes that deflate your tires, but since I was using it property I exited and headed on home. Within minutes I noticed the car pulling to the left and people pointing at my tire. So on a side road near my house I changed the tire on ice. Thinking it was the spikes I frantically called my wife to keep her from using the exit, at the same time changing the tire. Finally done I made a U turn and got stuck. The little donut has zero traction.

Eventually I solved that problem and headed back to wait for my wife. I checked the spikes and they seemed fine so I guess that was not the problem. We headed home and I then headed off to buy a new tire at a cost of $91. I arrived home and was taking it out of the trunk of my wife’s car when my in-laws pulled into the driveway on their way out. My wife came out of the house and was standing on the drivers side talking to her mom, while we were all on the passenger side talking to her dad. We heard a commotion, looked up, and there was a dog on a mission to get to my wife. Within seconds she had been bit on the arm with multiple attempts to get her legs. A call to the doctors and they told her to go to the emergency room with a deductible of .....$100. So by 11:30 we had spent $191 needlessly.

So..how was your day?

Geez Guy, that's really terrible. Sorry your weekend got off to such a terrible start. But now you've gotten all your bad luck out of the way in one big dose, so you should have a great day tomorrow! :)

Down here we didn't get any snow at all, only rain. It was sunny this morning, then cloudy and windy the rest of the day. Heading out again right now for another walk before dark myself.

Yesterday I had to go to Medford late morning, and the weather was interesting. I didn't see anything but rain until I got up around Atsion where some wet snowflakes were mixed in. In Medford around noon there was a mix of rain and some light snow was starting to coat the foliage but not the roads. Back home in the afternoon it just rained... a LOT. Went out for a short walk and got really drenched. The combination of strong wind and steady rain made for pretty raw conditions, but I don't think it ever got down to the freezing point last night - no ice or snow anywhere to be found in the morning.

Yikes, talk about bad luck!!!
You should sue the owner of that dog. Loose dogs always scare me, the minute I see one I slowly move away so it dont notice me. But on the ice, making a getaway is impossible.
Another reminder I should be getting that pepper spray.
I hope your wife is OK, hopefully her injury is minor.

It was all sleet here on Long Island, some rain mixed in on the east end. Either way the trails are gonna be a mess for a while.
4-5 inches of this concrete, it's impossible to move. I wanted snow, but yet again we got socked with more ice.

I got up at 05:30 this morning to clean-off the truck and my wife's car. She had a craft-show to attend this morning. I was hoping it would be cancelled, but it wasn't. After spending an hour or so getting them clear, she and my Mom headed out. I hopped in the truck and met up with a couple folks at the Atsion Ranger Station. We wheeled for a few hours. I came home and finished shoveling the sidewalk and driveway and here I sit.

It actually was sleet here also...much more I think than they predicted.

My wife is fine. I guess it went into the muscle because she says her arm hurts.

Well Nascar, it looks like you had the day I was hoping for. I had a scheduled meeting at Carranza but the weather put an end to what we were going to do.

Well if it makes you feel any better about the $191... I took my cat to the vet on Friday for his annual checkup, which was the reason for my Medford trip. When I left I was $778 poorer after the vet found a tumor and ran lots of tests and X-rays in addition to the regular shots and stuff. I never would have gone along with it if I had any idea it would cost that much! He's a great pet, but he's 18 years old and I already knew his days were numbered.

Did you find the owner of that dog? I don't know that I would sue him, but I'd certainly expect him to cover your out-of-pocket costs. I assume there's a leash law in your town, so the owner clearly has some liability.

Sorry to hear about your cat. As you have mentioned they can cost quite a bit to care for. Maybe that is why I don't own any pets.

The owner is a neighbor. She was very nice about it, but very concerned. I always look at it from the point of view that if I owned a pet it could have been me in her position.

Then hopefully you would also realize that you're responsible for your pet's actions, and offer to reimburse any medical expenses. I certainly would, and I would feel like I was getting off cheap at $100. But without understanding the whole picture, I guess I could be missing something here...

Boyd, I have a NJPineBarrens sticker in the window of my car, so any of my neighbors can read this. I try to be vague with anything I post that effects me here. Plus, she deserves some privacy also.

Unleashed dogs are a problem everywhere, and no one does anything about.
If that were me or my wife (if I had one) I'd definately be getting the police involved.
Also I wouldn't have her travel without pepper spray or another device to defend herself, there are plenty of animals out there, of both the four and two-legged kind. :siren:

Sorry to hear about Laura. In the scheme of things her problem was much worse than my wife’s.

As for the deductible, my health plan actually is $500 for a unauthorized visit to the emergency room. My wife called the doctor first to try to get in before they closed, and they told her to go to the hospital. So I am assuming we will not get a $500 charge from my health plan. The nurse at the doctors office said she made a note of it in my wife’s records so we have proof that we called.

some days you should just stay in bed, unless you just can't

i feel sorry for your wife, i think nj has a uniforn "leash law"

ps, we woke to over 13 inches of snow yesterday morn and had to go downtown at nine, yet again i fired up the 10 hp snow thrower for an hour and three quarters just to get out of the driveway, LOL

That is more snow than I want to see :) Sounds like you need a plow.

I bought a big new Toro snowblower to replace my old Craftsman about a year and a half ago. But we haven't had one snowfall heavy enough to need it at my place. So I think I can take credit for single-handedly causing the past two mild winters :) But that's fine with me since my driveway is around 800 feet long....

Here's hoping that everyone has a great day today!
