South Jersey: What are its boundaries?

While drinking a beer at Friday's in Brick Township with a lady friend of mine, a local drunk intruded on our conversation in which we had been arguing over whether or not Brick was part of South Jersey. I was arguing for the affirmative, largely because, to me, the Brick area pretty much shares the same "culture" as South Jersey. The drunk butted in and beligerantly told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, but I didn't listen to much else that he had to say. But what does everyone ehre think? What is South Jersey and what are its boundaries?

my father when he used to take me surf fishing to barnegat light at 12 th street in the 50's,said to him south jersey started at barnegat inlet.

When I worked in Woodbury the people I worked with said Shamong was central Jersey not South Jersey like I said. Who knows? I say Barneget Light sounds good. I know one thing, I always say I'm from South Jersey, never New Jersey.

I agree south of long beach island, maybe a little bit more north but not much. I consider a town to be from south jersey if the ratio of eagles fans to giants fans is 3 to 1 or greater, if not it is north jeresey

Real south jersey is generally a function of traffic lights per square mile... last time i was in Brick, I think it failed the test!

Having spent many years down by the Delaware Bay, it seems the multi-generation locals consider Cherry Hill to be north jersey!

Interesting criteria, dragon. Antoher reason why South Jersey is better than North Jersey.

Well then we're loosing ground. My sister lives in Beach Haven West and Comcast stopped providing channel 10 because the demographics has changed heavily to New York and North Jersey folk.

Wheretown? That's a bit extreme, isn't it?

North Jersey: Everything down to the Raritan River.

Central Jersey: Everything from the Raritan down to the border of Monmouth/Ocean County.

South Jersey: Ocean County down south.

For me, though, the Pine Barrens start at Toms River.

Since I live 3 miles south of 195 I wholeheartedly agree!
