Other places have flowers for spring ephemerals; the Pines have flag displays.
Photo below was taken on the east side of Chatsworth-Tuckerton Road just east of intersection with Lost Lane. Picture was taken on 20 Mar 2017. There was another of these a bit further east - didn't have means to get geodetic coordinates.
Today, 23 Mar 2016, both of these "things" sites were cleared.
Who put them there?
For what purpose?

Botanists use flags like that to mark plant locations but I don't think this is it.They are obviously in an X pattern with one more through the center.I"d suggest maybe an aerial marker of some sort for Orthoimagery reference when aligning aerials taken from aircraft or satellite but thse would be too small to see I"d think unless their imagery as gotten that much more detailed. I used to find white plastic X's laying on the ground about six feet across used for this purpose. This might be the new form for marking if the imagery is good enough to pick those flags out.
