Stump grinding

I have a some trees I cut down this past winter, about 10 to 12" diameter, they are cut at ground level. Not worried about the grass as it's mainly moss. I have an area that is literally infested with green briars, I wonder if I "seed" the area with the granulated chlorine granules i f that will kill then. The root system is literally a carpet. I cleared them this past winter also and plan to use the lawn mower to keep the new shoots short and not become the barbed wire security it was previously. Your mentioning tabs, are these tabs similar to the chlorine tabs you drop in the toilet tank which corrodes anything metal?
