Sunday was a great day, eh? I went out to the Middle Branch of the Forked River. If you were zooming by on the Parkway, you mayhaps saw me.

Buddy and the water snake prepare for battle.

A stupendous stand of Narthecium americanum. I estimate 8,000.

Close up of Bog Ashpodel. Member of the lily family and endangered.

In the same bog were thousands of Pogonia Orchids. Even Buddy couldn't smash them all in an entire day.

Interesting fungi. Photo does not do the red justice.

Floating Heart. Another endangered species.

A great Pine Barren companion. Built for the woods and cedar swamps.

Buddy was a little warm so he lay down in one of those icey cold water-filled cedar swamp holes. I was envious.

Great photo's! It is interesting how the dragonflies look so different from each other.

What lavish beauty in those wildflowers--by the thousands, yet! You're fortunate, Bob, to see such riches, to be able to store up such memories.
Love the aviator shots . . . and the tip of Buddy's nose. :)

Bob,

I understand Buddy completely.I've curled up in a few of those cold holes myself out of sheer heat exhaustion.
thats what I've always wanted.a snake sniffin dog who will sniff em out but won't kill em.did Buddy get close enough to get zapped?water snakes will back up their hiss.

No, he's too smart for that! See how his paw is poised for a quick reverse?
