Ben,
I agree water is most important in the barrens except for maybe hypothermia, depending on season and circumstance.Treehugger is looking at it from Toms naked survival philosophy about nature providing everything you need.I"ve needed water bad in the barrens and can always find some though it may not be as clean as I'd like it.I"m bad for drinking from questionable sources but I"ve never had a problem yet and no how to pick my sources well when thats an option.
Yes I believe tree hugger is steeped in Toms native spirittuality/new age/gaia type beliefs of which he is a modern day guru.I enjoy sweat lodges myself but do not worry about who tends fire or pours the water.I usually do it all myself since I"m usually the only one sweating.
A sweat especially with a jump in a cold stream immediatel;y thereafter really loosens ones muscles up,disells rheumatism and makes you temporarily weak but refreshed. It"s much the same as a sauna only taken in the dark with the only light being from glowing rocks.
Their is a whole religion built around the sweat from a new age/native outlook on it.I just enjoy the physical effects and the sense of well being.
I"m always up for building a sweat but I"m afraid my sacriligeous attitude in not worshipping the earth migh offend a true Brownie so i sweat alone or with a few likewise heathenistic friends
