The "graying" of rural America

Some good data from a national perspective. It is no secret that the children and grandchildren of farmers and ranchers are in many cases no longer interested in the very long and tough hours necessary with limited financial reward and they are letting these farms/ranches die. The flip side to the sharply declining property (and land) values coupled with very low taxes in many states/areas does allow folks who can create there own income (such as home based internet companies and retirees who have sufficient diversified income like a pension, investments and savings) to live a wonderful rural life for "little" money. The taxes and land values in NJ make this difficult but not impossible. I can tell you in NY state you can still find acreage with ponds/streams and dry upland hardwoods for under $3,500 an acre and yet still be within 1 hour of a small city. http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/the-graying-of-rural-america/ar-BBtM6yZ?ocid=spartanntp
