I've seen him out there,never realized he was in the book by McPhee. I seriously doubt he will be the last Piney just the last one in the book.I ran into a pine coner in the lower plains back in the mid 90's who looked to be maybe 40 tops.Talked to him but didn't ask his name.Tall,thin long beard.He was cutting them off the stunted pines and dropping them in a burlap bag.his truck was parked a couple hundred yards away.Wonder if he's still doing it.
I have seen Bill in the woods a handful of times. I have seen him working in his yard many times. I have always had the urge to stop and talk to him but just figured he would rather be left alone. I do need to buy a couple cords of firewood in the next couple of weeks. That would be a good reason to stop by and say hello.
