The dovetailing of my "first pine barrens trip" thread into a discussion on the Cedar Bridge Fire Tower had me thinking of the name "Cedar Bridge" in the first place. Though it may seem obvious, does anyone know the specific origins of this name? Obviously, it would refer to a "cedar bridge," but does anyone have any information on the actual bridges and what creeks they may have crossed?

I can think of two Cedar Bridge roads today - the biggest being in Brick and into Lakewood, and then the one near Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin. I believe there is another one in Northfield. To the best of my knowledge, neither of the ones in Ocean County seem to cross any bodies of water.

This is what Zinkin has to say about the one in Brick Township:

Cedar Bridge - for the cedar logs from which it was made; in the east part of Brick Township, over the Cedar Bridge Branch, near the mouth of the Metedeconk R.

Cedar Bridge, Vill - for the bridge nearby; in the east part of Brick Township, at the mouth of the Cedar Bridge Branch. Although the name still appears on current maps, the identity of the village has been obscured by the many housing developments that have cropped up since World War II
