A couple of weeks ago I ran into a state forrest worker in his white truck, being followed by 2 vans at Hampton Furnace. They were making the turn at the fork in the road and taking the bridge access road to the bridge.

The state employee got out to mark the turn with surveyor tape, so I asked him what he was up to. He said they were building a bike bridge on the bridge. I guess the vans were private citizens and were supplying the wood which is new, treated, toung and groove 2 x 8's. Since the fall I have been seeing white markers along the tracks, but the tracks are so over grown, I don't see how such a trail would get much use.

At least now I can get Willow over the bridge.

Seems as though actually paving it would be wasteful and kind of impractical. The boards are a nice touch though. Anyone that does frequent the old trestles/bridges knows what a bugger they can be.
Does steal from the look of the thing though.

So are they going to pave it with blacktop or just leave it covered in planks? I think leaving it covered in planks would be much, much nicer.

I still prefer it to be the way that it was. though.

Agreed!!! The wood is not bad but pavement would be disgusting. I think Ed meant it was "paved" with wood not that it is going to be black top or anything like that.

No, it's very dense, I don't see it as being a useful trail unless some group clears it. Maybe that will happen, but it's a BIG job. The only place someone cut trees was on either side of Carranza road, and they were dropped diliberately across the tracks, making it impossible to walk or ride along them.
I used to really enjoy hiking along the tracks untill they got so over grown.
