My interest was stoked by this article submitted by Ben, so this past Sunday me and my friend decided to visit the hallowed place. Map quest said it was 43 miles from my house, by the time we parked at the monument on Rt.524 the odometer read 39.9 miles.
There is a small pathway up the small hill and upon arriving to our surprise the cemetery was much larger than the one we viewed at Topanemus last year.
There are close to 300 stones there, about 80 are still legible. I then took the following pics.
Deborah Lincon Stone, kin of Honest Abe.
One of the Robbins Stones.
The many Debow stones.
Upon leaving the Cemetery we took a different path back to the car and we found this structure, we looked inside and to our amazement we saw numerous 10 and 20 gallon aquariums and also a lot of chicken wire cages, our guess was that they were used for the study of snakes ?, does anyone else have a clue to what they were used for ?
We left in the car and due to the closeness of Paint Island Spring, we decided to revisit the place and i took the following two pics.
We then proceeded to go to our friend's house in Tabernacle for some cold ones, but on the way we found this Burlington-Ocean County marker.
Before we went to our friend's house, we went to see if the Magnolia Road Tavern was sold yet, it wasn't, offers, but no takers, we chatted a little with a member of this website, had one Bud bottle apiece, $2.50 a bottle, then it was off to Tabernacle for some cold freebies.
In summation, it was our second car trip of the weekend, the Cemetery was the highlight, but it is a shame there is no upkeep there. I highly recommend visiting there because as the article states, it is a peaceful, serene place in this modern day world.
