I have been by this place many times, and just last week went past for the first time in abour 5 years. I saw this article and I'll be going there soon. The hill there is formidable, you can see it for miles. Mr Beck wrote of this area referring to a tower in a graveyard which I found in the early 90's. This graveyard is quite old and I would love to be able to spend some time exploring it.

My interest was stoked by this article submitted by Ben, so this past Sunday me and my friend decided to visit the hallowed place. Map quest said it was 43 miles from my house, by the time we parked at the monument on Rt.524 the odometer read 39.9 miles.

There is a small pathway up the small hill and upon arriving to our surprise the cemetery was much larger than the one we viewed at Topanemus last year.
There are close to 300 stones there, about 80 are still legible. I then took the following pics.

Upon leaving the Cemetery we took a different path back to the car and we found this structure, we looked inside and to our amazement we saw numerous 10 and 20 gallon aquariums and also a lot of chicken wire cages, our guess was that they were used for the study of snakes ?, does anyone else have a clue to what they were used for ?

We left in the car and due to the closeness of Paint Island Spring, we decided to revisit the place and i took the following two pics.

We then proceeded to go to our friend's house in Tabernacle for some cold ones, but on the way we found this Burlington-Ocean County marker.

Before we went to our friend's house, we went to see if the Magnolia Road Tavern was sold yet, it wasn't, offers, but no takers, we chatted a little with a member of this website, had one Bud bottle apiece, $2.50 a bottle, then it was off to Tabernacle for some cold freebies.

In summation, it was our second car trip of the weekend, the Cemetery was the highlight, but it is a shame there is no upkeep there. I highly recommend visiting there because as the article states, it is a peaceful, serene place in this modern day world.

Ben talking about the gas prices, while on Rt.70 where the Whiting sign is, there is a Wawa and an Exxon stations, the Wawa was charging $3.45 a gallon, the Exxon was $3.06, i thought i was dreaming, there was one car at the Exxon station, i pulled in to the pump, the cubicle window was open where the attendant should be, no attendant, on each gas island there were no gas signs, i should have known better.

It's going to continue. I really believe this change is permanent. I don't see any large-scale market changes coming to bring it back down. I know a few people in the oil business who think a year from now we may feel wistful about $5 a gallon.

Would be nice if the pols would reevaluate the state's gasoline taxes.

Wow, where to start?
I'm glad to see you back, there, Jim. Nice trip report. I, too was going to go there Sunday, but instead went to a train station in Newfoundland, NJ.
Jim, I hope you went to the "tower graveyard" described by Father Beck. It's not far.
Gas prices! Has anyone noticed the price of diesel? The greed of the oil companies and the governments allowing it will put this nation into a depression the likes of which have never been seen. Forget $5. Imagine $10, $20, heck what will stop them at $50? Truckers have to pass it on and prices are going up daily.
As far a the Whiting Exxon, I heard about three weeks ago he was on the COD list for deliveries. Imagine having to write a check for $30,000.00 for a tanker of gas. I don't feel sorry for him, all those years he was the only game in town and he robbed the poor seniors.
My 2 cents- Tom

The high gas prices have already started to destroy the economy. It can't get much higher before only the rich will be able to drive, and the economy will grind to a halt. Something will happen to push the prices back down to a somewhat sane level. I think we'll end up somewhere in the low to mid $2 range in the next few years.

I'm sure people also thought that gas prices were going to stay the same after the first oil crisis too.

I also have no pity also for the man who ripped off the Seniors. I do not recall the Tower Hill passage from Father Beck, but on a guess i would think that it is a little further East on Rt.524, make a right on Chambers Road, then a right on Tower Hill Road ?

Ben

That is the way the rich want this country to be, to have their own highways, byways, and seaways to their own.
It cost me $55.00 for my two day outing this weekend for gas.

IMHO, i think the truckers should shut this country down for at least two weeks, first we all stock up with food and necessities though.

The rich make money by selling goods to the middle class and the poor. The economy blowing up the way it's going does nobody any good.

Truckers shutting down the country for two weeks will absolutely put the final nail in the economy's coffin. It would screw all of us, the truckers, and all of the businesses in the US. It would also have a big impact on foreign companies.

The best thing for the economy would be for a less hawkish administration, and the rebels in Africa to stop blowing up pipelines.

Totally agree on a less hawkish administration.

I read an article about two weeks ago how 35% of the oil price is caused by speculators, that should not be.

The tower graveyard was in Forgotten Towns of Central Jersey and was the first item I searched for. It is located on Windsor- Perinneville Rd. off Rt. 539 about half way between Allentown and Heightstown. My boys were little then and we had a blast searching and finding the places and things.
Heading from Allentown you can see the tower from 539 on the right.
The whole cemetery is one of my favorites.

I tried to link your map, Ben, but couldn't figure out how to put in a push pin.
