Wanted: Late 70s/Early 80s Japanese Car

try an AMC Pacer, Gremlin or Matador.

Wow!! I almost forgot (well somewhat selectively I think)
about the Matador. I do not care what version of it you had (Oh God check out the wagons) It was one butt ugly design and said designers should have be drawn & quartered. My Auntie had one, Blechhh!
I also had another Auntie with a 2-tone Mauve Ford Fairmont (WTF!)
At least the Pacer or the Gremlin might gain you a little quirky status.
The Matador will get you beat up by your friends in the schoolyard.

g.

Couldn't agree with you more :) A neighbor had a Rebel, painted a metallic purple, he raced it at Old Bridge. I swear, that thing glowed at night.....

I almost forgot the Marlin, should have fed that one to the fishes :)

I wouldn't mind finding a nice Vega Cosworth or Corvair Corsa to play with.

wow talk about a trip down memory lane... I had a Hornet Sportabout when I was in college. ( I remember having to change the water pump Christmas eve before I could drive home) friend at college had a Pacer. I kinda liked them, big and roomy, she had a beer tap for a shifter. Javelin, Gremlin, now you are talking some classics. My parents had a Matador station wagon, hated driving that thing, felt like the steering column came out of the dash crooked.

The closest I had to an AMC was a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. When I first bought it I noticed that the cruise control module had come down from behind the dash and it had looked like it was duct taped up prior.

When I asked about it on a mailing list they told me that the duct tape was from the factory. Go AMC!

I had an 1984 Amc Eagle 4 door, white with a burgandy top, awsome car.

Have you considered an old pre 75 VW Beetle?

Beetles command some good money for ones in marginally decent shape.

I think I am putting off my search for a beater until next year. I need to pay down some of my credit card before I go off and buy another car.

Its a shame, my old 69 baja was just on Ebay and went for 900 dollars, that thing was amazing for the woods

I've owned three VW's. A 1990 Corrado G60, a 1993 Corrado SLC, and a 2001 Jetta GLX. I have a soft spot in my heart for German cars. The 1993 Corrado SLC was the best car I've ever owned.

Those new Jetta's are built tough. A new Corrrado is now available, but only oversea's for now. Here's what happens to them when stopped at a light and a MB 500SEL hits them in the rear doing 50. My son had to be cut out of it. He says he'd buy another.
