Water Lilies in Bloom?

I received this email yesterday and was wondering if anyone had an answer I could forward on:

Are the water lilies in Franklin Parker Preserve in bloom now? We went there a month ago and saw buds, and would like to return when they are blooming.

It may depend on location and weather; I have seen them in bloom in mid-May at Webbs.

Although slightly possible, this is the very earliest they would ever be out. I'd wait till last week in June, or early to mid July is even better. They may have seen the bud preceding the spatterdock (Nuphar variegata) flower, a different species, which I photographed on Monday:
