I got a LOT more than an inch of rain here over the last 24 hours. Went out for an evening walk and was surprised to find my wheelbarrow almost full, looked like about three inches.

Thank you. I like that it has the rain start time and a running total all in a constant view.
The issue I have with the rain gage is that everyday at midnight it starts back at zero. So if the rain starts at 8PM for example, the next morning you only know what occurs after midnight. However, I believe the app will tell you that info but Jessica controls that so I can’t see it without asking her.

I have 1.5 for the week. The weather yesterday has canceled my plans for today.

Mine will do the 24hr from the time the rain begins. I had 1.88” here in Folsom.

Wait a cotton-picking minute here. How did you account for the slope in the wheel barrow bottom? Also, was the wheel barrow on perfectly level ground? I don't think a wheel barrow is a reliable rain gage; or else they'd advertise it as such, a dual purpose if you will. :D

Of course you're right, and I have considered those things over the years. But I try to level it out and account for the slope. I also compare with the NWS estimates and am usually pretty close. That Rutgers map suggests I had around 2", and that could be right, but the wheelbarrow was much fuller than I've seen it for a LONG time, which tells me pretty much all I need to know. The creek was also noticeably higher after the rain, something that I haven't seen for awhile too.

In the end, it's just an estimate and I don't want to spend $300 for one of those weather stations (although it looks cool). BTW, I saw that same model on Lowes website and it was a lot cheaper than the manufacturer's site.

It's weird that today's forecast doesn't even mention severe weather or high winds...

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 3pm. Areas of fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

I use 6-gallon wine juice buckets. :)

At any given time there are at least 2 buckets in each of my trucks and 3 or 4 strewn around my back yard. No batteries or WIFI needed, just a simple ruler is all it takes.
My only problem is following the very simple reset procedure after a rain. Typically, I am driving around with about 9-10 inches of green smelly water with floating animal parts and game bird feathers in each bucket before I reset. :D

I will stick to Jessica's weather station. No need to go outside, buckets, ruler, smelly water, animal parts and complaints about all of them. :D

I really wonder what's going on with the NWS in Mount Holly. Now they have taken down that severe weather map and replaced it with.... precipitation probabilities for November. :ninja: I mean... seriously? Have they been doge'd?
