Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Updated briefing (without the clickbait ;) ). But 5 to 7 inches of rain (if it really happens) would certainly be "biblical"!:siren:

These weather sites are way out of hand. This flood map, just pulled it up, trying to scare me where I live? Yet, look at their forecast below the map.

That pretty much matches the NWS forecast... for today.

A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

But tonight is when the storm is supposed to hit...

Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 66. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

If you are heading to Florida it appears they are going to have Saharan dust heading their way. I wonder if it will eventually effect us?

I don't go to facebook anymore (and don't go to Florida either) but here's an article which makes it sound like no big deal for the locals (unless you have some kind of respiratory problems)

Hadi said this plume is coming “right in the middle of when it’s normal” for Saharan dust to impact South Florida. The season for Saharan dust typically runs from late June through mid-August.

Getting close and starting to rain. However, it appears to be going around us at the moment.

Hasn't reached me yet, trying to finish up some chores and get out to the woods and wait for the arrival. That red area around Glassboro is a tornado warning, but it expires in a few minutes. No doubt there will be more to come though...

My daughter just came up 55 through the storm area and is almost home. She texted and said it wasn’t bad at that time.

Nothing here yet but a very light sprinkle. Was out for a half hour and came back to see whether this part will hit me, has been hanging just West of me so far but that probably won't last. Have not seen much of a temperature drop at all here.

[edit]Raining hard here now!

That briefing above said "damaging winds are the main threat" in two different places. Looks like they called that wrong (so far), no wind at all here and the forecast says 5 mph tonight. Not that I'm complaining... :D

The weather forecasting has regressed to a point that it can’t get worse. There is an app called “precip” that shows totals for anywhere on a map and it’s been very accurate. Looks like some spots in core barrens, bryne, along 72 got 4+. It’s good that are needed it, pretty dry prior.

Looks like somewhat over an inch at my place and that agrees with the nearest NJDEP station here. Interesting that they don't show anywhere near 7 or 8 inches, the stations in the pines that I checked were all less than 3 inches. I suppose it could be all about the methodology - they are providing estimates for 2.5 x 2.5 mile NWS forecast grid squares. I'm sure there are small areas within those squares that get more (or less) rain.

Anyway, it's good to finally have some rain down here, but we were once again near the low end of the scale.
