Yep, as 46'er said, but there should be a cable gate at the parking area and the next road further North on 539 beside the Chamberlain branch is blocked by dirt mounds although trucks have made their way over and around.

Thanks, I was thinking of using my mountain bike to see what was in there, Guess I don't have to now!

With the road closures in Wharton I've spent more time north of 72 this summer alone than I have in the last decade.

It's a nice place to ride out of hunting season, but easy to get turned around in. I lost count of the number of hunters that asked for help

It's an interesting area to explore, there are "original" trails between some of the fields before they made the fields.
I messed up when I said the Chamberlain branch is North of the parking area, it is South. A mountain bike is a good way to explore in there and legal. I'm showing the remains of a cabin that I'm sure has been discussed here at some point. You cross over the dike from the road.

Nice thanks!

When are the hunting seasons where those fields are stocked and utilized so I can avoid it?
I'm hesitant to explore the area because the signs at all the blocked entrances all say "DEP official use only".
I'm not a hiker, but the area appears to have lots of well maintained roads/paths and interesting topography for taking in nature on a bike.

Hmmm, open fields, surrounded by dikes... limited road access... existing cabin structure... I might have to explore here just to include it in my zombie apocalypse plan!

Leave it to Teegate, is there any place you haven't been or pictures you don't have? LOL
Wait a second, do you have a picture of the rusty bicycle frame nailed to a tree on the North end of the fields, or the old truck cab hidden within the fields? [you probably do, lol]

Yes, but does TeeGate?
To be fair the bicycle frame is at the end of a road that turns into a hunter deer drive line in the woods not the fields, quail hunting you wouldn't be there.

I do not have that photo. I remember it being posted before and the mention of FFS men dying.

I have only been in there a handful of times with Bob, PBX and Jessica.

I think I have seen the bike however I can't place it on which road it's on.
The bike frame is really nothing much to see, just wanted to see if Guy had a photo.
I don't think there's much else to see but you guys pick out the smallest details so who knows?
There's a couple of hunter drive lines along with trails leading to hunters "spots".
Not so much now, but in the winter when the foliage is off the trees and bushes and the woods are more open, the general area has a few elevation changes that I think are quite nice.
The hunter drive line ends/starts in the upper left hand corner of the fields.

Guy, you mention some FFS men were killed here? Do you have the thread?

Close approx. of where the bike frame is.

I didn't either but there was post years ago about this. I believe it was 46er who mentioned it but I may be wrong. I looked but could not find it.

Here is the link, Tee mentioned in post #9 he thought someone on this site had mentioned it. Twasn't me. The only person I know that may have known of it passed on last year. The truck showed no evidence of fire when I first saw it. Post #12 in that thread, which is very similar to this one, gives an opinion on the truck.
