Hi folks, does anyone know what the heck this is?
I know very little about NJ, didn't even know of the Pines existence until today, and have enjoyed reading about it. I've always loved old abandoned places and had no idea there was so many of them as there are there.
Out of curiosity I decided to google map NJ to have a look at the area and I came across the above area. At first I thought "military base," but then I noticed that it looked like huge empty lots (those rectangles are the size of neighborhood blocks). And then there's the randomly scattered "letters" H, V, T, L. There are paved roads through the area and it looks like people have been ORV'ing around in there too.
I mean there's some seriously anomalous stuff up in here.
I read in another forum (can't find the thread now) someone was talking about a huge tract of land that was being developed into a neighborhood, but for whatever reason was abandoned before any structures went up—apparently it was a popular night-time teen hangout. Could this be it? Still doesn't explain the overlapping random placement of some of the shapes, like that H and T right on the grid, but kilter to it. Someone suggested an RV park, but the way the paved roads cut across the "lots" I doubt it.
I'm sure there's a rational explanation, and to someone from around there I may look pretty foolish, but it looks wacky from the air.
Thanks for any help—I know I'm going to loose sleep over this.
