That is a WMS (web mapping service) server which provides "tiles" like those used by NJPB Live Maps. I don't believe there is a standalone viewer available. I can access it with Globalmapper and Ben can link it to the site however.

Guy: here's an example of the USGS 24k and historical topo from the same area around Oswego Lake. Pretty cool. Combining this with the new Garmin raster image capability (see: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?p=71995#post71995), you can hike through history in the pines! :)

NJPB Live Maps version 4.0 Released - http://maps.njpinebarrens.com
Added:
+ Google Terrain Layer
+ 1995 Infrared
+ 2006 Aerials
+ Historic Topo (1884-1900) layer

Feature Improvements:
+ Redesigned UI giving more room for the map
+ Small code optimizations

Known Issues:
+ Printing is still wonky
+ USGS topos and DOQ's still come from slow as hell Terraserver. Can't find a replacement WMS that has *color* topos.

Tested with Safari 4 and IE8.

Beat on it and let me know if you break it.

The old version is still online temporarily - http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/old

I've been thinking about making some changes to NJPB Live Maps.

1. The name. It's too close to Microsoft's Live Maps product. Any suggestions?
2. Should we change the start point to somewhere other than Batsto?

I am not good at coming up with names. Maybe it should mention "aerial" and or "topo" in the name. NJPB Topo & Aerial Maps. Or Live NJPB Topo & Aerial Maps.

I think you may want to leave it be. Members are used to it, and any title with the word map in it, newcomers will get the idea. Batsto is a good central location, also. Just my opinion.

If you go to the site now it is no longer called Live Maps as far as I can tell, so you aren't using a name they use.

So, here's the deal with plugging in coordinates in the "Map It" box. Apparently Google's geocoder is buggy and appears to want to put the marker at the nearest addressable "point."

So, if you do that your coordinates are going to be off by a little bit.

Maybe there's a workaround if I let people plug lat/long in directly, but I don't know.
