ZR3 (USS Los Angeles) Entering Lakehurst Hangar for the First Time

This is the airship USS Los Angeles (ex Zeppelin LZ-126) coming home to Lakehurst NAS for the first time. I found this image while trolling the Library of Congress for historic photos of Asbury Park. Thought folks here would get a kick out of it.

Lakehurst is a delightful destination for Pine Barrens fanatics. While a bit of a hassle getting in, the Navy Lakehurst Heritage Center is well worth the extra effort.

Make sure everything is in order (driver’s license, insurance), since the vehicle inspection to enter the base is military and rigorous.​

This planer memorial is all that commemorates the Hindenburg disaster (two archeologists and a botanist provide scale).​

That spot has a lot of Pityopsis falcata; sickle leaved golden aster. A lot of it gets damaged each year from the little projects that the Navy constantly has going on.
