Glo (Gloria Repp)

Folks:

I've just received news that Glo (Gloria Repp) has passed away after a short bout with cancer. She was a frequent user of my library before she contracted long COVID. She authored many books for teens filled with mystery and adventure, but always with a Christian message. A faithful follower of Christ, she is now resting with her Savior. Requiescat in pace, my friend!

In sorrow,
Jerseyman

Sorry to hear that Jerseyman. Gloria explored with Jessica and myself on one occasion, and her and I traveled the Oswego Swamp where I showed her the Broom incised property corners. She was able to keep up with me and waded through the swamp quite well. This photo shows her with Jessica deep in the woods behind Moores Meadow when we found the corner stone to the Moores Meadow property. It wasn't easy getting there and she did really well. Later I learned when I visited it again with Sam that it was placed there by Sam's Grandfather.

I saw her maybe one other time at Lines and spoke to her for just a few seconds. Thank you Jerseyman for letting us know!

I am very sorry to hear the news about Glo. I never had the privilege to meet her or even post contemporaneously with her here. However, reading old posts, particularly whippoorbill and Al's long-running old thread Tuesdays with Alfie, provided an introduction to her. In addition to her way with words, she just seemed to have a joy for life, particularly for the Pine Barrens and her friends here who shared her passion. It was nice to see that she had the chance to get out with you and Jessica, Guy. She also went on at least one of whippoorbill and Al's Tuesday adventures.

Today, I found this poem by Glo in a post on another great old thread from whippoorbill, another barren night, checking out local frogs:

A Friendship bog of piney frogs
—The loveliest I’ve seen—
Their swirling shrill and sqwonking songs
Rise through the leafy green.

I’m pining for that barren land
Of sumptuous swamps and sugar sand,
And in my dreams, the sweet Skit croons
Of gleaming bogs and froggy tunes.

Thank you, Gloria. Condolences to all of her family and friends.

So sorry to hear that. May she be resting in the arms of Jesus.

Bill and I took her on a sojourn into Bear Swamp once where a hip deep wade across a hundred yard wide flooded area was necessary. She loved it.We also took her on a night time Friendship Bog tree frog hunt.We had a spot where you could here at least eight species of frog at any give time including PBTF. She loved that as well.I think Friendship figured in several of her children books if not mistaken

Bill also took her on several trips without me.He has one nice photo of her standing in a flooded road through Pitch Pine Lowland.I think I know the road they were on. Down by Hawkin Bridge Lowland
