    Friendship Creek Preserve - Tabernacle

Thanks for posting. That big No Trespassing sign off Powell Place/Sooy Place roads is very intimidating - many thanks for pointing out that it doesn't apply to the road itself, only the bordering lands. Remember when Irick Causeway was open public lane from Sooy Place Rd to...

    Discaeded Cranberries

This afternoon as we drove north on 563 just south of Chatsworth, Ro pointed to the large field south of the Ocean Spray packing plant and said that the field looked like it was covered in cranberries. I said,"No way. Must be some sort of grass." I didn't remember ever seeing that field look...

    Burnt Bridge Beaver Dam

Coming north on 563 today we were surprised to see about 1/3 of the beaver dam just below the bridge was GONE. The water level was very low; on the north (west?) side of the bridge the water level was as low as we've ever seen it.

    Big Trees

WOW!!! Al. did you measure their circumference 4 1/2 feet above ground level? That's a major way the state record trees are listed. Those babies gotta be pushing whatever is on the list. Wish I was able to get down in there but not likely any more..... Many thanks for posting.

Visiting the property corners of the Oswego Gun Club

Fascinating reading to a long-term township Zomimg Board member. The affected Township office should have their township tax map, current to the day you visit, which along with supporting documentation will list the deed owner/s, the lot and block number, the annual tax, whether its farmland...

    Pineland Commission approves pipeline

Got a PPA bulletin this evening that the Appellate Division of the NJ Supreme Court ruled that the Pinelands Commission did not follow their own rules. The Court set aside the PC decision favoring the pipeline and returned the matter to the PC. The Court did not rule on the substance, only the...

The Hamlet of Friendship and the Alloways.. The History Behind the Alloway Memorial Stone

Many thanks to Ted for authoring the very interesting article, to Teagate for providing a color copy of the Whitesbog newsletter and to PBX for the two newspaper articles. What I found intriguing in the latter two newspaper articles is nary a whisper of NJ state participation in the purchase...

    PPA/Pinelands Adventures - Deer Hunting

Ro ran across the following advertisement, which pointedly ignores PPA and their relationship. Interesting. Just saw this and verified it as true. PPA advertised this on Craigslist, but not on their POS site. Interesting..... http://southjersey.craigslist.org/for/5804739824.html

    The Slash

Altho this article, sent to me by Ro, has absolutely nothing to do with the Pine Barrens, reading it immediately made me think of Teagate and Manumuskin on their survey stone forays. Now, here's a really BIG challenge for them...

    Pine Barren Flora

Bob, we stopped at the site this evening and for sure it's Sweet Pepperbush/Clethra alnifolia. Thought, wrongly, that their leaves are entire.

    Pine Barren Flora

Haven't responded sooner as busy outside of botany and took today off so we could go down to Bombay Hook (tons os Avocets, another scarcity than can be found in big numbers in certain spots).

    Pine Barren Flora

Bob, green serrated (sic?) leaves in the Gentian pix may be Clethra alnifolia but we need to go back for a better look. I had the same question after posting, btw. Gentians were in a very thick mix of plants and surprised me that they found their way to sunlight.
